On November 7th, back in our beloved Barn at The Vic Hitchin, Shout or Whisper hosted our FIRST collaborative open mic event with the wonderful folks at North Herts Pride, and obviously it was an absolute pleasure.
Before the event had even kicked off, one of our performers bestowed upon us a gift that took the sting right out of the previous night’s U.S. election; we had just been given our very own SHOUT OR WHISPER GOWN.
Adorned with inside jokes and mementos of our favourite moments, the Sinclair Shout or Whisper Gown is now available to ALL acts whether they’re performing for first time or the fiftieth time.
The Winter Pride night was an eclectic mix of mediums from a bill made up of entirely of LGBTQ+ performers; we had a usual concoction of exceptional spoken-word and stand-up comedy, a few musicians (including a spellbinding Cellist telling tales of failed sexual encounters) and a traditional Scottish habbie contending with Roland Barthes’ concept of The Death of the Author. Even a local cat popped in to see what all the rapturous applause and laughter was about, much to the delight of our slightly-tipsy patrons.
As the excitement sadly came to a close, we announced the identity of our headliner for December’s Festive event; the one and only Robin Ince! The crowd, suitably impressed, managed to sell out tickets less than twelve hours since the revelation.
Shout or Whisper will be back in The Barn on December 12th for our final event of the year – for those that missed out on tickets, fear not! We’ll return after the festive break with a whole new schedule of events, workshops, community outreach initiatives and social meetings for all our favourite people.
Lots of love,
Will, Reb & Tom x
